Nortel Networks

Nortel is a recognized leader in delivering communications capabilities that enhance the human experience, ignite and power global commerce, and secure and protect the world’s most critical information. Our next-generation technologies, for both service providers and enterprises, span access and core networks, support multimedia and business-critical applications, and help eliminate today’s barriers to efficiency, speed and performance by simplifying networks and connecting people with information.

Nortel established its first office in India in 1991, as the country began the process of liberalization for the telecommunication industry. Since then Nortel has rapidly evolved into a major telecommunications player in India , working out of offices in Mumbai, Delhi , Bangalore , Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. Nortel's solutions are sold and supported in India by a network of distributors and resellers as part of the Nortel nPower Channel Partner Program .

In India as in elsewhere across the world, Nortel's business units are aligned into two main categories: Carrier Networks (incorporating Wireless Networks, Wireline Networks and Optical Networks) and Enterprise Networks . Nortel offers a strong suite of products and solutions for customers across these two broad categories, including:
Voice/Data Networks and IP telephony
Multimedia Services and Applications, including VPNs
Personalized IP Services
Multimedia Services Platforms
Contact Centres and Voice Portals
Wireless Broadband (from total 3G Solutions to Wireless LAN and Wireless Mesh Networks)
End-to-end Broadband Solutions (including Optical Ethernet, Multiservice Packet, Multiservice Optical, Storage Network and Ultra-broadband Access Solutions)

Leadership in Key Segments
Nortel has garnered leadership positions in India's optical transport market and in the enterprise arena - especially in the premier enterprise space - call center and business process outsourcing ( BPO). It has also firmly established its footprint in the managed services arena with the five-year managed services deal signed recently with the Bharti Group. In Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Nortel has replicated its global leadership in India with a No. 1 ranking. Nortel’s customer base in India has been growing consistently across both carrier and enterprise segments over the past 3-4 years, resulting in 10-fold growth in revenues since 2002.

Investing in India
The strength of Nortel's commitment to India is apparent not only by its strong working relationships with the country's leading carrier and enterprise customers, but also by the significant role it has played in the growth of large software houses such as Infosys, WIPRO, Tata Consultancy Services and Sasken Technologies.

Another facet of Nortel’s commitment to India is its growing R&D thrust in India. In recent times all major Nortel Technology Labs around the world have assigned part of their development activity to India. The acquisition of Tasman Networks Nortel Technology Excellence Centre (formerly Tasman Networks) has also strengthened Nortel’s R&D efforts in India. The focus of the Nortel Technology Excellence Centre ( NTEC ) is on advanced Routers, Ethernet Switching, Security, and Voice over IP (VoIP) for the enterprise market. The NTEC initiative is yet another example of how Nortel is integrating itself with the Indian local industry to serve its customers better.
