Network SME
• Responds to the more complex problems escalated by the help desk staff pertaining to all network-related hardware and software products supported by IT.
• Provides technical guidance and consults with vendors and other systems support units to identify and resolve complex client problems.
• Alerts clients and team members when a major problem is suspected. Performs recovery testing to confirm availability of systems where outages have occurred.
• Interact and coordinate activities between vendors and MetLife related to Network Monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Insure that problems and changes are properly documented, support groups notified, and issues resolved to prevent production impact to MetLife.
• Contributes to the direction of the organization in terms of policies and procedures followed
• Works closely with design engineers on new product testing
• Works with vendors and network engineering in the identification and resolution of complex network problems
• Assists with the integration and schematic depiction of network architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission links and protocols into complete network configurations.
• Helps resolve network problems (Tier 3 support) utilizing structured troubleshooting tools and techniques. Interfaces with vendors (Cisco, ATT, Avaya, Verizon, etc.) on systems problems.
• Integrates and schematically depicts network architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission links and protocols into complete network configurations.
• Identifies and resolves complex network problems (Tier 3 support) utilizing structured troubleshooting tools and techniques.
• Interfaces with vendors (Cisco, ATT, Avaya, Verizon, etc.) on complex systems problems.
• Competent to work at the highest level of all technical phases of telecommunications/network engineering while working independently most of the time.
• Monitors overall network performance, including accountability for problem identification and escalation.
• Represents the organization in Enterprise-wide meetings and in crisis management situations
• Participates in the evaluation of vendor proposals, conducts network studies and traffic analysis, and recommends modifications to the network configuration to reduce cost or improve service.
• Works with client and development area management in developing systems specifications, technical implementation plans and coordinates complex installation projects working with staff, clients and network engineer.
• Able to identify and explain various technology solutions to our AD partners and assist them in selecting that which is optimal for the business application in question
• Advanced network/internet problem analysis and resolution
• Operational governance of changes to network infrastructure
• Coordinates the involvement of internal technicians and vendor personnel depending on the severity and complexity of the network problem
• Manages vendor relations with respect to field support, equipment and network performance. Reconciles differences and ensures vendor SLA’s are met.
• Actively participates in the development of strategic planning for the Network Operations environment
• Represents team on major collaborative efforts for key IT and company initiatives.
• Creates high level and detailed analyses, project plans, and other related documentation and procedures.
• Proactively identifies technical and procedural areas of concern to avoid gaps and problems.
• Acts as an acknowledged technical resource for less experienced staff and to assist colleagues on other teams.
• Serves as a project lead or project representative on a single phase or on multiple phases of one or more projects.
• Receives little direct supervision or acts independently under general direction.
• Develops strategies and direction for network systems solutions using current and emerging technologies.
• Plans and recommends network hardware, software and architecture
• Evaluates and recommends new products, maintains knowledge of emerging technologies applicable to the enterprise.
• Hands on experience on Cisco and Juniper products.
