Server SME
• Provides day-to-day oversight of the distributed backup environment.
• Participates in distributed application recovery processes.
• Performs related duties as assigned or requested.
• Directly and indirectly responsible for meeting day-to-day administrative needs and problem resolution within the Distributed Server environment.
• Assists directly or indirectly (through vendors) with user administration (adds, changes, deletes, disk space management, backup and file restores.)
• Assists directly or indirectly (through vendors) supporting access to the server environment.
• Assists directly or indirectly (through vendors) with implementation of hardware and software changes to servers and related devices.
• Assists in the day-to-day administrative functions and problem resolution related to the distributed server environment.
• Integrates and schematically depicts communication architectures, topologies, and hardware.
• Assists in the documentation of technical standards and interfaces applications.
• Assists in the planning, forecasting, implementation and identification of resource requirements for operating systems of moderate complexity.
• Participates in server planning, network architecture design, and engineering.
• Integrates and schematically depicts communication architectures, topologies, and hardware.
• Identifies and resolves server problems (Tier 3 support) utilizing structured troubleshooting tools and techniques. Interfaces with vendors (IBM, HP, Microsoft, EMC, etc.) on complex systems problems.
• Assists in the documentation of technical standards and interfaces applications.
• Responsible for high-level server engineering and optimization.
• Has a broad knowledge of software and related hardware technology and its implementation.
• May be called upon to provide Tier 3 troubleshooting.
• May conduct studies and prepare reports on findings, as needed.
• Interfaces directly with vendors, operations staff, peers, application developers and management, as needed.
• Participates in the evaluation of vendor proposals.
• Selected and relied upon to represent team in major collaborative efforts and on key IT and Company objectives.
• Proactively identifies technical and procedural areas of concern to avoid gaps and problems.
• Ensures the implementation of operations policy changes consistent with corporate objectives.
• Responsible for documentation of hardware/software logs and operating procedures.
• Overall responsibility for Performance Management.
• Top level technical expert in one or more highly specialized phases of server and operating systems engineering. Undertakes complex projects requiring additional specialized technical knowledge.
• Develops strategies and direction for server systems solutions using current and emerging technologies.
• Plans and recommends distributed hardware, systems management software and architecture.
• Approves and modifies server design and architecture to ensure compliance.
• Evaluates and recommends new products, maintains knowledge of emerging technologies for application to the enterprise.
• A top level technical subject matter expert in one or more highly specialized phases of server engineering
• May design specifications for, develop, test, debug and deploy software or install, customize, test, debug and deploy complex vendor operating system, network, or storage management software and/or storage subsystems to meet needs, refresh technology, or enhance the operating systems and network.
• Attends planning meetings and actively contributes ideas and critiques.
• Assists high level management in reviewing overall plans and identifying gaps and needed tasks.
• Serves as a project lead or project representative on a single phase or on multiple phases of one or more projects.
• Makes complex modifications to existing environments to fit specialized needs and configurations.
• Participates in the evaluation of vendor proposals, conducts infrastructure studies and develops reference architectures.
• Supervisory responsibilities include writing and delivering performance management reviews.
